Budgeting

Today, dinner at Sakae was with a budget in mind. Well, it’s just because I realised that I would normally order the RM5.90 one, always thinking it’s RM5 something, when in reality, it’s RM6. Sigh. And RM6 for something so small, it’s expensive!

So, it was mostly green and pink.

Except this red which the BF got.

SDC10001

Raw salmon, which I still think is much better @ Zanmai.

But Zanmai doesn’t have this:

SDC10002

Green plate Kakiage. Yum! Ordered 4 of this between us!

SDC10003

Salmon maki! I didn’t know what other green plate to order!

SDC10004

And a pink plate Egg mayo inari. Which I quite like!! sweet but in a savoury kinda way.

Changed moolah to rupiah as it’s just a day away from BALI!

50% birthday “privilege” @ Sakae Sushi

Privilege was in “” as I was kind of ripped off. When they showed me the phamplet, it showed 50% discount during my birthday month. When we went, it was 50% rebate which goes into your card. so it’s something like, if you spend RM100 @ sakae, you got RM50 voucher. I felt kinda bad because then, we had to spend MORE money than intended as we only noticed this after ordering. sigh. Anyway food was ALOT considering the bill came to RM89 (RM10 or so was TAX <wth!> )

SDC11657

Grandpa’s first order! I think he’s been craving this for a really long time. Octopus. I think today, i realise how expensive Sakae is. Everything is like RM5.90, RM1.90 or so, so you always think it’s RM5 something, when it’s actually RM6. =.= Japanese restaurants are rip offs sometimes because I think something so small doesn’t COST that much!

SDC11658

Raw salmon.. They became smaller!

SDC11659

Ura Maki for me! I like this because it has my fav elements 2 in one, raw salmon and *went down to watch Ms Universe for a bit!* salmon skin!

SDC11660

The BF’s Garlic fried rice-RM5.90. It was alright. Not too bad! Garlicky!

SDC11661

Kakiage. We had 5 of these. But they were pretty small compared to the ones at One U branch.

SDC11662

Soft shell crab. It was very small for RM9.90. The plate LOOKS big but it’s because of the dipping sauce. It was meh..

SDC11663

I quite like this. Breaded pumpkin. But more tartare sauce please!

SDC11664

I didn’t know what this was, but I just took it anyway. Soon after, I realised it was salmon head. I didn’t like it much as it was fattie and gooey, but grandpa enjoyed the “eyeball” *cringe*!

The bill came to a RM89 something, but i have RM40 or so in my card to use. Sigh, i would rather have the rebate IMMEDIATELY. oh well. As usual Grandma doesn’t like japanese, so she didn’t have much. She insisted on heading to Sweetchat for dessert as there was sweet potato soup there.

SDC11665

Me & the BF shared a Herbal Treasure Soup RM5.90. It was ok. Filled with “Lius”. I like that there is sweet potato inside there. A tad too sweet though.

SDC11667

A very gingery sweet potato soup. Grandma likes it because it’s cut up into cubes. It wasn’t cheap though-RM5.00. The bowl may look big, but there wasn’t many sweet potatoes inside.

SDC11668

Mango Mountain RM5.90. It was really mangoey! And had lots of sagos. It should be mixed well though. Because there were parts where it was just ice while the bottom part was super sweet! No wonder gramps like it!

The bill came to about RM20. Quite pricey though. I’d rather make my own homemade sweet potato soup!

Went home super stuffed and sleepeh!

Roses made my day.

SDC11282

Won’t walking home to this just make your day?

The bf bought these beautiful roses and left it for me to find when I got home!! Love him so much for this! 🙂

SDC11286

Thanks dear!

On other matters, to prepare for my LONG day of filing ahead, the bf prepared a “new breakfast” (to me at least..)

SDC10001

I know, it seems odd. You know the kind of cereal you get when you order cereal fish (famous in Chinese restaurants), it’s actually Nestum, and i love it so much. So i bought a tin of Nestum

I’m not 100% fond of it in milk, though the BF is.. but i LOVE it toasted! Oh SO GOOD! But note, a bit of salt and sugar is preferably added during toasting.

A cup of joe for my morning dose of caffeine.

SDC10002

Note: need to buy more new bowls and cups if i continue blogging. 🙂

Went to work, for which i was late…

WORK WORK WORK!

Lunch @ Sakae Sushi! Wanted to use up my RM10 voucher!!!

IMG_0197

Now, everytime me and the bf head there, we NEED to order to plates of kakiage! so yum, and worth the price!

The bf took one before i could snap a shot. =.=

Well, this wasn’t actually what i had, but i did have two of the right ones. Again, forgive as i’m just getting used to blogging again!

Nevertheless, food was yumm.. and back to work. =.=

WORK was manic till 330!

But after the despatch left, everyone seemed most relaxed ever in DAYS!

Went for “tea” at Pappa Rich..

Dinner @ Hong Lim Teochew Porridge.

Fruit @ home!

SDC11312

I heard that apples & grapes are a good pair to be eaten together, in terms of nutrition.

I have something new to show you tomorrow.. something i’ve been wanting to get for a while, but just couldn’t find it here!!

Ta for now. i’m SLEEPY! 🙂

Sakae, twice in a week

On Thursday, me and dear celebrated early valentine’s since we won’t be together on valentine’s day.. CNY. =.=

After college, dear picked me up and i suggested to head to Sakae to use up me RM10 voucher.

SDC10775

Finally, my ura maki. but looking at this pic, makes me realise how expensive sushi is. this four pieces cost rM5.90, means about RM1.50 each 0.0

SDC10779

Green plates are RM1.90 – reasonable. dear ordered lots of it..

And i realised i dont like miso soup! so gross!! Svun, how in the world can you like it!!!

SDC10776

I of course, had to have my kakiage! yum, but when finishing one plate, i felt jelak.

SDC10777

Soft shell crab crepe!

SDC10778

Salmon mayo..

the bill came up to RM33, but paid only RM23 with me voucher! 😉

Sushi, my love

Wow, i’m amazed that nowadays, after sending dear off to work, i still can function and stay up from 6 instead of falling asleep.

Had a quick preworkout snack of Coffee + Honeymaid and Skippy PB. I was planning to have my brekkie early, but my stomach didn’t wans something heavy.

Workout was the usual, but i’m getting weaker.. and me don’t know why. I plan to start on whey soon.. Anyone has any advice?

SDC10738

Breakkie was another coffee-i was sleepy (i tend to feel sleepy this days by mid afternoon! Even when listening to a lecture.. wait… that would be normal if the lecture is boring though.)

And an overnight oats w/cranberry!

2nights before:

1/4 cup oats, soy milk and natural yoghurt + some cranberry jelly

This morning, Hawaiian Oat Crunchy (Mornflake).

Nom nom nom.. eaten with PB Skippy, will just make any oats better!!!

Yum.. headed to E&G class. how fun right.. learning about Reciprocity, and fairness. wow..and the great part is that i don’t actually know how to place the theory into the answer..

anyway, met pik san and svun for lunch @ Sakae Sushi!!

SDC10739

Soft shell crab crepe. Personally, i thought this was quite nice today cos the soft shell crab was crispy.. Pik San thought otherwise. But i heart it!

SDC10741

This is pik san. being annoying! haha! I also had a kakiage.. times 2!!!

It’s been so long! too long! i miss it. but kinda made me jelak. the first order was huge. but the second order was only half! 😦

SDC10742

Svun got this.. mango soft shell crab.. RM12.90!!!

Pricey! but i still think Zanmai beats Sakae for those really nice looking sushi, but Sakae beats Zanmai for the conveyor belt ones.

Sadly, yesterday, sakae’s service was not that good as food took really long time to come. too many people to handle i guess.

Food: 7.5/10 | Price: 6.5/10 | Service: 6.5/10 | AmbiencE: 7/10

Sakae Sushi, 1 Utama

IMG_0012

We went for ice cream, on svun!!!!! She spent us ice cream for reasons i shall not state here. 😉

I had a vanilla yoghurt ice cream. Since tutti Frutti, i’ve been craving for vanilla!

The one on the right is pik san’s peppermint!

Yum.. aTe and licked while watching the awesome lion dance show.

IMG_0013

I think me and pik san can have heart attacks while watching this. there was a stunt, where a kid was involved, the kid fell, but they caught him! the crowd was in shock!!

Then it was SMA class.. which was alright, less talking about “other stuff”. Totally SMA focused. which almost made me fall asleep. But the lecture ended a half hour early though!

Went home… after some lazing around, decided to have some fruit.

SDC10743

not fresh. cos am out, but i always do keep some canned just in case.

Admiring the vaio…

And loving the iphone. Thanks mom!

but at this moment, i’m having trouble syncing it. 😦

SDC10744

Didn’t have dinner till 9 cos wasn’t hungry and was waiting for dear. not the vaio brochure is there to hint dear, but i don’t think he even looked at it. =.=

We had Tuscan bean soup by Tesco’s light choices! yum.. kinda on the sourish side today. but i seemed to taste everything sour today. i think it’s my tastebuds.

Also some Tesco (yes, i’m obssessed with imported stuff by Tesco cos they’re good and cheap-er) crispy potatoes. not crispy anymore though cos we didn’t eat it immediately.

And 2 sunnyside ups for dear. i have mastered it! woo hoo!

That’s all for yesterday! will update later!

Sakae Sushi @ Sunway Pyramid

What a change of plans today!

Me and sam met up at pyramid to catch a movie before meeting Rakel for dinner..

But all the movies were like at odd times, we either missed them, or it was too late like 520pm, and we wanted to watch Did You hear about the morgans? (i know, we’re kinda behind )

So we walked around from 3 till 516pm… now i know why my knees hurt!!

Anyway, then just as i was about to sit down with my Honey orange latte from Starbucks

Ok.. it didn’t look as great as this of course, no whip, low fat, and in a to-go cup..

Rachel texted! her car was in the workshop, thus she was unable to make it.. and looking at the time.. if we could speed walk to the theatre. and there was no lines.. we get to miss the ads and be in time for the show!

And we were- though i had to hide my very hot latte in my bag..

Verdict about the latte: It was… weird.. lol.. honey orange and coffee? Orange and choc.. i’ve heard. coffee and orange.. maybe some people like it, but i don’t. i miss the toffee nut latte though..

(Become a fan at their FB pg)

The show was hilarious. I mean, totally funnier than i expected!! I loved the part where Hugh Grant was fighting with the bear. Anyway, considering  how funny it was, i think dear would’ve liked it too though he hates romance/chic flicks.

After the show, we hit up Sakae Sushi for dinner! Surprised that Sam was CRAVING for sushi cos the last i knew, she hated sushi.. Transformed! Yay cos then we can enjoy it TOGETHER!

I didn’t take ALL The pics.. but i took some..

SDC10688

Sam got this unagi sushi, i think that’s crabstick, and one soft shell crab crepe. i had the soft shell crab crepe too, but it wasn’t like fresh.. i mean, it was soft-ish already. 😦

SDC10690

I also had an ura maki.. yum! Always love the silky salmon outside and the crunchy salmon skin inside.

SDC10691

Also had a kakiage (on top) which was a tad disappointing with this branch as the one utama’s branch’s portion is maybe double?

See here.

The soft shell crab (though did not come with the crispy green sobe as illustrated), was quite good. but my only complain is that it was too oily. it didn’t look oily, but boy it was. i think i never learn my lesson with soft shell crab..

And i never learn how to avoid deep fried foods.

Sigh.. Sam got a couple more conveyor belt plates..

And that totaled up the bill to RM62..

Food: 7.5/10 | Price: 7/10 | Service: 7.5/10 | Ambience: 8/10

(I thought the design of this branch is nicer than the 1u/curve branches)

Sakae Sushi, Sunway pyramid

We went for a bit of grocery shopping.. and that’s the last i see of sam….until next week!

[Giant Bowl @ SS2] [Sushi Zanmai @ Gardens, Mid Valley]

Xmas Eve!! Wow.. it has been a feast so far, and more feasting at night.

Breakfast was:

SDC10500

A cup of coffee with a slice of red bean log from RT pastry house. A really compact bread..

Went to fix dear’s wheel bearing.

And met his bro for lunch.

At Giant Bowl, SS2

An organic vegetarian shop..

Dear ordered nasi lemak RM5.90

SDC10502

The sambal was excellent. The curry was so so.

Fake chicken.. amazing how it really resembles chicken.

SDC10503

Dear’s bro had tom yam fried rice which he said tasted funny. I guess too vege-fied for him!

SDC10504

While i had me a rojak. Not bad. but i’m not really into fruit rojak. I liked the keropok on top though, reminds me of the one eaten for yee sang during CNY.

Overall, the food was alright, but slightly pricy, and i kinda find the people arrogant. i don’t know. that’s just my opinion.

Food: 7/10 | Price: 6/10 | Ambience: 6.5/10 | Service: 6/10

New Giant Bowl, SS2 –Same row as McD

After lunch, we headed back home after sending dear’s bro off.

Took a nap cos dear said he knew it would be a long night..

We left the house at about 430pm for a 7 pm dinner! It’s Xmas Eve, and we expected jam. And we were right. all the major highways were jam so we took the Penchala Link.

Headed to Borders Starbucks to use our laptop and have a read.

time flew and soon, we were waiting outside a packed Zanmai for our seats. I just don’t understand why people don’t make reservations, knowing it’s Xmas Eve. But i shouldn’t bother, cos we did! 🙂

We ordered ALOT of food!

SDC10514

Left: Chuka Ikado (RM6.80)-was quite crunchy and tender at the same time. Well seasoned, but maybe on the salty side unlike Sakae which is on the sweet side.

Right: Inari Kanimayo (RM4.80)

SDC10515

Garlic rice (L) – RM13.80

Very fragrant and tasty. This was supposed to be for Grandma, but as usual, she shared it with everyone.

SDC10516

Wasabillar roll-RM12.80

It has a crunch to it. I’m not sure what makes it crunchy though. I love the green little balls though! inside there’s some salmon.

SDC10517

Soft Shell Crab-RM10.80

I normally love this one. Grandma had one but i decided to try a new dish with soft shell crab

SDC10524

Soft shell crab Okonomyki-RM12.80

I regretted ordering this. Not only it came super late, There wasn’t MUCH soft shell crab. And the soft shell crab wasn’t crispy cos it was attached to the pancake. I thought it was and egg the bottom-turned out to be a pancake. Taste-wise: unique, and alright. but i think i would’ve preferred just the soft shell crab.

SDC10518

Coral Roll: RM12.80

Reverse roll of crabstick and cucumber topped with smoked salmon and cucumber and salmon roe

I think you already know why i love these! The smoked salmon!!! Glorious!! Love the smokey taste. So sad that no place serves just smoked salmon on a platter.

SDC10519

Salmon Sashimi (2 large) : RM27.60

a total of 14 slices there. So smooth and velvety. love the texture!! Best with soy sauce!

SDC10520

This is a new dish-lobster teppanyaki (RM12.80)

It was quite small-Zanmai can always fool people-i once ordered a scallop dish, it was SOOOO tiny compared to the pic. I didn’t try this lobster-gramps shared it. they looked like they enjoyed it. 🙂

SDC10521

2 sets of Mini California Maki (RM13.60 for 2)- quite good.

SDC10522

Akak Jean’s and Akak Carol’s fav Dai Dai roll (RM12.80)

This is their fav. It is good-but i like my smoked salmon one. 🙂

SDC10523

Yakiniku Don S-RM10.80

Dear had this-rice topped with tender beef and onions.

The beef was not as tender as i thought, but i do love the onions

SDC10525

This is a new item-Crystal Roll RM12.80

Reverse roll topped with inari and cucumber and some pickled veg on top. I thought it was OK. nothing to shout about cos i thought the ingredients were not luxurious enough for the roll to be priced so high.

SDC10526

Akak Carol ordered a Tempura Udon (S)-RM10.80

Grampa really liked the udon when he tried some. He said it’s really smooth!

SDC10527

A separate plate of tempura mori was ordered. RM9.80

the only thing i can say is that the portion is a tad to small.

I had one brinjal and half a prawn-quite good.

SDC10528

Yaki Soba (L) RM15.80

Basically stir fried noodles-but the noodles were on the sourish side. I guess that’s normal for jap noodles. It was quite nice, but we ended up taking away most of it cos we were STUFFED!

The bill came up to RM253.35 inclusive of 6 Ocha and tax.

Food: 8/10 | Price: 6/10 | Ambience: 8/10 | Service: 6.5/10

Sushi Zanmai-The Gardens

T217-3rd floor, The Gardens, Mid Valley City, Lingkaran Syed Putra, 59200, KL Tel: 03 22821160

Went back home. We danced, listened to Xmas music. Even had dessert after such a big dinner

SDC10532

Akak Jean bought this from a friend. It was delicious. Layers of biscuits with chocolate in between. Almost like chocolate digestive biscuits. but better!

SDC10533

Also had a drink or two..

And 12 midnight came. opened our presents.

And off to snooze!

Sakae Sushi Mystyle

Class starts at 1030am today.. so i got up only at 7am to have some brekkie before workout..

cerealSorry! i didn’t get my cam downstairs.. so i used my nokia 7390..

still decent.. hehe..

i miss my cereal.. had 3/4 cup of allbran flakes, topped with:

bunchesand some nuts.. and a teaspoon of ABC melrose spread.. in a 1/4cup of soy and 1/4 cup of HL milk

this all bran flakes are actually pretty filling.. but it gets soggy too fast!

Did my workout.. running at 3 7 min intervals, and situps, plus weights.

After workout.. refuel was.

naneri realise when you cut up a banana, it looks very little.. this is a cavendish banana.. which looked big.. but after cutting up and topping with PBU, it looks little..

Also had 5 Meiji Hello Panda biscuits..

nutAnd a gulp or two of this

sbuki actually bought this drink from starbucks.. Cranberry Grapefruit flavour. It cost me RM9 and if i knew the price, i would’ve gotten Tazo tea instead.. This is made in Malaysia.. and i don’t think it’s worth the money.. quite grapefuit-ish, but it has added sugar inside..

Off to class. i was supposed to follow gramps. but turns out, Granma also had a dentist appointment, so i drove on my own today..

I reached college at 1030am, only to find out from Svun, it’s moved to 11am.. Apparently, there are some meetings with the UK peeps about the course, etc.

IB lecture had a new lecturer today.. She’s quite alright after lightening up. but i keep wanting them to discuss the assignment.. but noone sems to care. i guess we’ll have to deal with it on our own.Plus, the book hasn’t arrived either, with only 7 weeks of teaching left!

We decided to lunch at Sakae today.. with the My Style voucher.. used Svun’s phone..

Buy 1 Free 1 Red plates up to Buy 10, free 10.. [sms “my111 sakaesushi” to 33365]..

We managed to eat up to 12 plates (RED and that’s only red plates).. and we were stuffed!

Here are my eats..

Soft Shell Crab crepe

softshellcrabPik San was kind to swap one of my tiny ones(the pic is pik san’s plate) with hers.. Thanks.. but after our meal.. we ordered another to share.. lol.. means we had 1 + 1/2 of these..

Delish.. i love the soft shell crab as it has no rice, which means less filling, and more stomach for other things. hehe.

uramakiUra Maki!My fav.. Reverse roll of salmon skin, topped with raw salmon! Delish!!! Two of my fav in one! I love the crispy INSIDE, and soft and smooth salmon outside! Pik San, you should’ve tried this!

hanamakii had a Hana Maki. Another one of my fav cos i find that they use good quality salmon for this. i don’t know if it’s my imagination.. but it’s sure good. the salmon is very velvety.. and i love the combination of the mayo + salmon.

Shared this unagi maki with pik san

unagi

Reverse roll of salmon skin, topped with slices of unagi (eel). yum! but i think i still like my Ura Maki. 😉

Here are Pik San’s eats..(besides what she shared)

piksanOf course, a pic of her first.. hehe

temakiLobster salad temaki..

octopusChuka Ikado.Seasoned baby octopus. Grampa’s fav!

And a Soft shell crab crepe.. which svun had too!

svun n meSvun and me.. we’re quite stuffed!

Svun had..

ssc temakiSoft shell crab Temaki..

kani saladKani Salad.. I don’t know what she thought about it, but Pik San said the last time she had it, it was strange.. but i don’t feel it’s WORTH RM5.90..

lobstersaladLobster Salad Sushi..

And a Miso Soup (never a complete sushi meal for svun without miso soup) and a tuna mayo temaki..[i can’t find the pics]

Now do you know why we were stuffed?

Hehe.. Svun had to leave early.. so we paid our RM53.10 bill, and me and pik san sat for abit before leaving..

Food: 8/10 | Price: 7/10 | Ambience: 7.5/10 | Service: 7.5/10

i heart my friends and sushi

Class ended early today! Yay..ended an hour earlier. Turned out the book i’m supposed buy for international business cost RM90.. quite pricey! 😦

Went to Sakae sushi for lunch.

Of course i had to have my Kakiage!!

kakiagePortion seems to have shrunk.. 😦 compared to this time i went.. i wish they would make a portion of just brinjals.. i don’t think they would though. lol

While waiting for Hana Maki, which took a long time… me and Pik San shared a Soft shell crab crepe roll..

softshellHad two pieces.. yummy.. i love love soft shell crab!!!! I heart soft shell crab!

Finally my hana maki came..

hanamakiYummy thick slices of salmon wrapped around rice, and topped with mayo and a sprinkled with orange roe.

Svun had a Chicken Katsu Don.

Svun and her chicken katsu don

Svun and her chicken katsu don

HAha.. she said it was alright. “Normal only”.. chicken with rice underneath.

Pik San had a Kani Maki..

kani makiAnd other stuff which i did not picture since i did not eat..

Was not that full after that though. Pik San went to get some Gelato which was so tempting-i had a few samples.. 🙂

Walked around and bought a new hairband cos i lost my old one.

Svun was kind enough to drop me off at my car.. had to park really far today cos i was late!! There was no parking in the housing area.. there was.. but far from the gate. so i was 10 minutes late for class.

Since IB is still book-less, i was kinda lost about what the lecturer was talking about-plus he’s the one i don’t really like. sorry to say but i don’t understand him. I know some of the stuff he mentioned i’ve learnt before, but totally forgot! I can’t believe it. lol. i hope i can find my old SAM (South Australian Matriculation) notes..

Came home, finished my trail mix and had some sunflower seeds..

Read a bit of my AFA book-which i still do not understand.. and finished half of my handi-pak i had this morning.

Dinner’s Bak Kut Teh in Aman Puri.. Dear’s working night shift tonight.. sigh.

Ok. Ta for now, i’m gonna read some blogs and study..

Loves,
